There is a saying that goes, “Men cheat to stay, women cheat to leave.” I have heard this statement many times, and although I do not believe it should be treated as a psychological law about every man and every woman, I understand why people repeat it. There are relationships where a man has cheated and still desperately wants to keep his marriage, his family, his home and the life he has built, while there are also situations where a woman becomes involved with someone else after she has already emotionally disconnected from her relationship. When we look deeper into human behaviour, however, we realise that infidelity is much more complicated than gender. People cheat for different reasons. Sometimes it is about validation, sometimes excitement, attention, loneliness, resentment or sexual dissatisfaction. Sometimes it comes from insecurity, poor boundaries, entitlement, emotional avoidance or an inability to communicate needs in a healthy way. So I would not say that men cheat...

As I sit here this morning, I find myself reflecting on how quickly some of the struggles people face are attributed to supernatural causes and how easily these beliefs are reinforced by those around them. I often wonder why another human being would be willing to risk their religion and their Hereafter by associating partners with Allah simply to harm another soul. Why would someone knowingly involve themselves in something Allah has warned us against just because they want to see another person suffer? This is something we hear about quite commonly in the Maldives, and it is certainly no secret to anyone living here. People talk about black magic, sihr, jinn, the evil eye, spells, objects being buried or hidden, strange things being found, relationships suddenly falling apart, illnesses being attributed to supernatural causes, and many other stories. Sometimes these stories are spoken about with such certainty that people accept them as facts without questioning where these bel...

Last month, I travelled to Hdh. Kulhudhufushi for an official trip in collaboration with Zedex Abroad to conduct a series of public awareness sessions for parents and students. It was a meaningful professional engagement where we focused on career guidance for O’Level and A’Level students, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, purpose, leadership, managing time and stress during examinations, and a dedicated parent awareness session on conscious parenting. I remember the journey there quite vividly. We travelled via Maldivian, and it was drizzling that day. I was carrying my laptop and, as we made our way towards the aircraft, I could see passengers getting soaked in the rain. I remember feeling a little upset about the experience, not because of the rain itself, but because of how the situation was being handled. When you are travelling for work, especially carrying equipment, these small experiences can make a difference. While on my way to the flight, I contacted the lounge servic...
