Choosing a life of abundance

I use to think a life of abundance was only for the privileged and not for me as my mindset was constraining me financially, physically, mentally and emotionally. I was envious of the word “abundance” which I truly never understood the real meaning of, until recently. Let me take you back to a chapter in my life where there was a time I ate only biscuits for breakfast, lunch and dinner because we couldn’t afford a real meal. Let me take back to a time where I slept on just a mattress on the floor and shared one room with my siblings and mother. Yes, I have experienced scarcity in my life and I used to believe that was how people must live. In fact I believed that living with scarcity is the only choice in life for the underprivileged like me. To be honest I use to be a cheerleader of the victim mindset for a long time. Recently I realized that anyone can choose to live a life of abundance. My mentor Lisa Nicole define abundance as “privileged circumstances.” Basically what it mean...

“I shifted my worrying and doubt to a strength” Mariyam Mohamed

My parents were separated when I was a baby. I grew up without a father and at times I wonder how it would have been if my father took me to school and went to my parent meetings. How it would have been, if he was actively involved in my life? How different I would turnout? How different people would have treated me? How different would it be if I had a single picture of myself with my father? These are some doubts that kept going in my mind for many years but despite all these doubts I believe my father is a good person and I still do. Why would someone doubt and then have a logical explanation in their mind? Why am I telling this chapter of my life that is so deeply rooted in my belief system? Today I am learning more about myself than I have ever learned in the past 3 decades. Ever since I started my journey as a coach I find new ways to heal myself. When you experience trauma through a long period of time it becomes a part of your belief system but this all can be changed by a simp...

Do you know what really happens to you when you are stressed?

[cont..] The two areas of the brain that are mainly affected by stress are the Pre-frontal cortex and the Hippocampus. Pre-frontal cortex is the area of the brain that is right behind our forehead and the hippocampus is located in the medial temporal lobe of the brain. These areas are responsible for human intellect functions, executive functions, planning, memory, learning, time management, basic organizational skills, self-control and emotional well-being.  As we age Pre-frontal Cortex is sensitive to thinning which results in impaired memory and cognitive decline.  The thinning process of Pre-frontal Cortex accelerates when you are under stress for a long period of time. Further, due to stress there is an increase in activities in the primitive parts of the brain such as Amygdala. Amygdala is commonly known as part of the brain that plays a role in processing fear. When the level of fear increases it increases the anxiety level of oneself.  Other problems we face due t...

Do you know what really happens to you when you are stressed?

Scientific research on the brain using Functional Magnetic Imagery (MRI) show that the brain can be made to grow at any age. “Human brain actually deteriorate and shrink around age of 26-27 and by the time we reach 40 the human brain atrophies shrinks at 5% per decade. Yet it is possible to lay down new brain cells and increase our brain until the day we die.” Professor Ronnie Newman, Research Scientist. According to the professor, one of the most important thing is to keep stress level in check because stress has a strong detrimental effect on the brain. How do our brain cells work? The above figure is a depiction of a human brain cell which is known as Neurons. Our brain cells have finger like protrusions which is called dendritic spine. At the end of each dendritic spine is a receptor site. The hollow space between two dendritic spines is called a synapse. The communication between the brain cells affects the way we learn, remember and how we experience the world around us...

How Motherhood Helped Me

I remember very clearly the struggles I went through as a new mother. After birth I was unable to hold my baby as I was afraid I might hurt her neck or break a bone in her tiny body. She was so fragile and dependent on others around her. I didn’t even know anything about parenting. I never held a baby that small ever in my life so this new experience of motherhood built a fear in me. I was questioning “What have I got myself into?”, “How am I going to take care of another human being when I am unable to hold my own self together.” I am grateful I have a very able husband who did everything for her including cleaning her. She was only given to me for feeding which I was struggling to do. As I was a new mother I was feeding my baby the wrong way. I recall watching videos of how to feed a baby properly. To hold my baby I needed a pillow or I kept her on the bed. I cried for days and most of the time I didn’t even know why I was crying. Yes, I was going through Post Natal Depress...

What you think about you bring about.

[contd..] “No thought, whether it be negative or positive, can enter the sub-conscious mind without the aid of the principle of auto-suggestion.” Napoleon Hill Any thought that enters into your mind must go from the conscious mind to the subconscious mind. Most of us use our five senses to detect external stimuli that results in a thought or a set of thoughts. Our thoughts are mainly linked to the current events in our life. A thought or collection of thoughts form an idea. When we hold onto the same idea over a period of time, it gets registered in our subconscious mind and eventually becomes a strong belief. This can either be positive or negative. This belief is detected through the feelings of an individual and the feelings are shown through the actions. The best way to detect our thought process is through the results we get in our life. The results indicates an individuals daily habit, thinking patterns and actions. Throughout history there is this one philosophy tha...

Your Marvellous Mind

In order to understand how one can control his/her thinking it is important to first understand where the thinking takes place. Thinking is done in our mind. Even though our brain takes part in controlling of the body's reflexes, our mind is not the brain. Brain is just a switching station that is controlled by the mind. Dr. Thurman Flee stated that “The mind is an activity not a thing. No one has ever seen the mind. In order to gain clarity and eliminate confusion, I will create an image we can work with.” He drew this image to simplify on how the mind works. The Conscious Mind is also known as our thinking or rational mind. Sub-conscious mind is also known as our emotional mind. Our conscious mind has the ability to accept or reject information but whatever goes into our sub-conscious mind is accepted. Almost 95% of us use the five senses to comprehend the events or/and outcomes in the environment. So most of us respond according to our present results. If we are in a diffi...

Shifting Victim Mindset

Most of us are brought up in a culture where blaming is the norm. We have a victim mindset where people blame the situation and other people for the outcomes in their own lives. This results in a repetitive pattern of outcomes. Every outcome in your life is a reflection of how you responded to an earlier event or events in your life. There are many contributing factors that might impact the outcome of an event but if this is the deciding factor non of us will succeed in life. If you start blaming the financial crisis or your spouse or the weather for your lack of results then you will never go forward in life. You will either be stuck or move backwards. So how can we handle such situations in life? In order to change the outcome an individual needs to focus on internal outputs. To have a deeper understanding of this subject a simple concept I learned from my mentor Jack Canfield is Event + Responses = Outcome. The events are external forces such as people, pandemic, natural disasters o...
